Argentina will be represented by the multi-awarded film La Cámara Oscura (Camera Obscura) directed by María Victoria Menis. The setting for this moving film is a colony of Jewish immigrants in an Argentine province at the end of the 19th century. Gertrudis, in her family’s opinion, is born an ugly baby, grows into an unattractive child and becomes an almost invisible and insignificant woman. Ignored by all, Gertrudis opens her eyes to the small joys in life and creates her own universe. Years later, when she is married with children, a French photographer passes by and offers to photograph the family. This man is the only one to discover her singular beauty and rich inner life.

Nominated for 8 Argentine Film Critics Association Awards (Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, New Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design and Best Music), the Argentine movie La Cámara Oscura (Camera Obscura) received the Condor de Plata and the Signis Prize awards (Argentine Film Critics Association Awards) as well as the Best Film awards at the Pays de Caux International Latin Film Festival 2009 and at the International Jewish Film Festival of Uruguay 2009. It also received a Honourable Mention at the Leipzig Argentine Film Festival 2009.
